I know this feeling

Quote of the day

The only thing that scares me more than space aliens is the idea that there aren’t any space aliens. We can’t be the best that creation has to offer. I pray we’re not all there is. If so, we’re in big trouble.
- Ellen DeGeneres

RIP Kevin DuBrow

RIP Kevin DuBrow October 29, 1955 – November 25, 2007

I hope you and Randy are Rocking in Heaven!

Introducing the irack (my son sent me this one)

Thankful

I am very thankful today for so many things, I am thankful I worked today because that means I have the means to recieve what I need in life to survive. I am thankful for having such an awesome supportive family who always has my back in all things, they are truly remarkable. Mostly I’m thankful my son is a happy person, a complete “go getter” in his desires who enjoys life and loves with passion, kindness and forethought for others. I know a few people in my life who could be taught a great deal by him.

T-Mobile To Sell iPhone In Germany Unlocked and Without A Contract

By W. David Gardner

Deutsche Telekom’s T-Mobile unit in Germany said Wednesday that it will offer the iPhone unlocked and without a contract following an injunction on its iPhone sales that had been issued by a German court.

DT said it will offer the iPhone for 999 euros ($1,480) without a contract and for 399 euros for consumers making a two-year commitment to the phone. The issue was brought to a head byVodafone (NYSE: VOD) Group, the second largest mobile phone service provider in Germany. Vodafone sued DT in German courts.

Vodafone, which owns 45% of Verizon Wireless in the U.S., said it did not plan to challenge Apple’s exclusive iPhone deals in other countries. The T-Mobile decision to offer the iPhone unlocked and without a contract goes to the heart of the “openness” issue that has been challenging the mobile phone business worldwide. In the U.S., Google’s Open Handset Alliance seeks to open up cell phone access across different service providers.

Regulations governing the marketing of cell phones and cell phone service varies from country to country in Europe; Vodafone took advantage of German regulations and charged DT’s T-Mobile operation violated competition laws. With France Telecom preparing to launch the iPhone in France next week, the exclusivity issue could be raised there, too.

In the U.S., Apple has an exclusive arrangement with AT&T (NYSE: T) to market the iPhone. There is some irony in DT’s situation in the U.S. where its T-Mobile unit can’t market the iPhone while its parent company has been forced to offer the coveted phone to all comers in Germany.

The $1,480 high price for a standalone iPhone is likely to put a lid on single sales of the phone, but the opening up of mobile phone networks in Germany could lead to bootleg sales of the phone acquired elsewhere.

While DT moved to comply with the orders issued by the German court in Hamburg, it noted that the dispute will be examined in detail at a hearing in two weeks; in the meantime, DT said it is reserving the right to claim damages from Vodafone.

My space music and friends

It feels nice when a friend who is a veteran of over 10 tours including 3 world tours says “OMG! that is amazing shit. love it” about your my space music. Sometimes artists doubt themselves, I know I do. There are days I think I will stop playing music and just produce and engineer in the studio because I’m good but not great. The a friend drops a note like that. I’m grateful for someone else’s ballanced perspective.

Which would you rather have?

Dell $1499.99

imac $1199.99

Both have 20″screen, Both have Core two Duo processors, both have the same ATI Video chipset, Both have 250 GB SATA Hard Drives, the apple is an additional $150 to have 2GB of memory equivalent to the dell which has Vista Home (YUK!) and the Apple having OS X. So… I ask you, Which one would you rather have? I bet Dell pulls this from there channel within 9 months due to poor sales. Can you say Fugly?

Now heres how Apple’s think different approach works, look at the dell. It’s far wider then the Apple. Why would you want to take up more desk space and make your all in one wider? Apple designs the imac with the Hard Drive’s, speakers and Fans at the bottom of the unit so you don’t waist precious desktop real estate. The space between the monitor and the sides are stunningly thin, maxium space on your desk. And did you see all that plastic on the Dell? Green Peace is sure to have a conniption! Lastly, look at that sleek keyboard on the dell! It’s hideous, the new apple keyboard is the best keyboard I have seen come out in over 20 years. I can’t figure out who would want to by this Dell XPS, but I guess I will find out when I install one (if anyone ever buys one).

Return And Reclaim
Returning To Creative Dreams

As children, many of us entertained fantasies or even goals of being an actor, singer, dancer, artist, or musician. In some cases, we received enough encouragement to develop our abilities in those creative arenas, but somewhere along the way we stopped. This stopping may have been due to circumstances beyond our control or to our own unconscious acts of self-sabotage. Being creative can be scary in a world that seems to value logic over imagination and practicality over dreaming. We can forgive ourselves for shutting down or turning our attention away from our inner artist, but perhaps we can also take steps to reclaim our dreams.

In certain times and places, developing a creative ability was considered an important part of being a well-rounded human being. It was not necessary to be a professional or a masterly genius, because the act of creativity was valued in and of itself. It gifts are manifold—from the sheer pleasure of allowing our imaginations free reign to sharing and enjoying the fruits of our labor. Children share drawings and songs freely, without self-consciousness, and there is no reason why we cannot do the same thing. You may already be remembering some lost form of expression, such as making jewelry or writing songs. Your soul may be responding with an energetic lift as it feels its way back to a time when it was allowed to express itself freely. Your brain, on the other hand, may be throwing up obstacles, like the idea that you are too old or do not have the time.

The truth is, you are not too old, and if you have time to pick up a pen, you have time to make a doodle or write a haiku. Recognize that the obstacles you find before you have arisen from a place of fear and that they will wane in power every time you do something creative. Each creative act takes you deeper into a realm of beauty and magic, a realm that you have every right to return to and reclaim.

Lady M sent this to me, it’s very moving and so well done.

OS X 10.4.11

I finally updated to OS X 10.4.11 on my imac 20″ core duo last night as a test. I still have found not a single shred of information as to the working of Pro Tools systems with the new patch. After waiting a week to adopt as to gather information not readily available I went for it on one machine. This morning I booted up Safari in need of two separate web browsers, I didn’t even notice I was running Safari 3. I couldn’t see any difference even when going to the preferences menu. I’m not sure what the big improvements are but honestly I use Firefox as my main browser anyway. Maybe I can take some time out of this busy day to go read up on it. Next, testing pro Tools!

Horoscope for Saturday, November 17

At first, your shattered plans will seem like the end of the world, but don’t wallow too long in self-pity. What seems like a disaster turns out to be an interesting prospect. Let this one unfold slowly. Don’t worry; it’ll pick up quickly.

Steve Jobs May Get a Raise

By Dylan Tweney

Steve Jobs might not be the worst-paid CEO in Silicon Valley much longer.

In its annual 10-K report, filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Apple says that “because Mr. Jobs’s continued leadership is critical to Apple, the compensation committee is considering additional compensation arrangements for him.”

Jobs has taken only a token annual salary of $1 since returning to Apple in 1996, for which he is recognized as the world’s lowest-paid CEO by Guinness World Records. He is well-compensated by other means, however, being the frequent recipient of gifts from Apple’s board of directors, such as a Gulfstream Jet and tens of millions of shares in restricted stock, which have contributed to Jobs’s estimated net worth of $5.7 billion. (One incentive for this form of compensation: Capital gains tax on stock market profits is less exacting than federal income tax on earnings.)

The “low-paid but highly-compensated” approach at Apple isn’t limited to Jobs. Board Director Al Gore is the lowest-paid director apart from Google CEO Eric Schmidt, but accepted $15,245 in hardware. It’s a safe bet that he’s one Dude who isn’t getting Dells. And some 21,600 Apple staffers received free iPhones (and they didn’t even have to wait in line).

Stock options have caused difficulties for Jobs recently. Options conferred to Jobs in 2001 — 7.5 million of them — were granted at an unusually low exercise price. Investigators examined the possibility these options were back-dated, but no charges have been filed, and an internal investigation at Apple found that Jobs was unaware of how stock options were issued. A judge threw out a lawsuit related to the options affair on Wednesday.

Wal-Mart Plans To Re-Stock Hot-Selling Linux PC

This is a very worthy follow up to my previous blog:

The retailer says the gPC has been one of the best selling desktop computers on walmart.com over the last few weeks.

Wal-Mart officials said Wednesday that the retailer plans to re-stock a hot selling, Linux-based PC that is currently sold out on its Web site.

The Everex TC2502 Green gPC will again be available at Walmart.com “in the coming weeks,” said a spokesman for the company.

Wal-Mart began selling the Everex gPC online for $199 earlier this month, but it’s currently listed as “Sold Out”. Wal-Mart’s spokesman wouldn’t disclose precise sales figures, but said the gPC “has been one of the top performing desktop computers on Wal-Mart.com over the last few weeks.”

The spokesman said the gPC remains available at a limited number of brick-and-mortar Wal-Mart stores in the U.S.

The gPC is one of the first Linux-based desktop machines to be offered for sale by a major retailer. As such, it could be an indicator of open source software’s potential for success in the consumer market.

The gPC comes pre-loaded with the gOS operating system — a Linux variant — and a 1.5 GHz processor manufactured by Intel (NSDQ: INTC) clone maker Via Technologies. The rest of the specs include an 80-Gbyte hard drive and 512 Mbytes of DDR 2 memory.

There’s no monitor included, but buyers get stereo speakers and a DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive.

As for software, the gPC comes with the free OpenOffice.org 2.2 productivity suite. The suite, which includes word processing, spreadsheet and presentation applications, recently won backing from IBM.

Everex is a Taiwanese-based PC maker that’s looking to carve a niche for itself as a supplier of low-cost systems. A version of Everex’s gPC that runs the basic edition ofMicrosoft (NSDQ: MSFT)’s Windows Vista is on sale at Wal-Mart for $298.

Microsoft 2008 Server to Launch in Feb

Micropoo announced this morning that server 2008 would launch in February, here are the pricing schedules:

* Windows Server 2008 Standard: $999 (with five Client Access Licenses, or CALs)
* Windows Server 2008 Enterprise: $3,999 (with 25 CALs)
* Windows Server 2008 Datacenter: $2,999 (per processor)
* Windows Server 2008 for Itanium-based Systems: $2,999 (per processor)
* Windows Web Server 2008: $469
* Windows Server 2008 Standard without Hyper-V: $971 (with five CALs)
* Windows Server 2008 Enterprise without Hyper-V: $3,971 (with 25 CALs)
* Windows Server 2008 Datacenter without Hyper-V: $2,971 (per processor)

So Now the basic server office package has increased in price and let half as many users connect to it (server 05 lets 10). I’m so sick of the greed of microshit, I’m so sick of the arrogance. I recently installed ubuntu on an off brand obscure revel (greenbook) notebook and all but the sound driver plug’d and played. I installed Vista on a clients dell notebook yesterday and it didn’t plug and play 11 drivers including Video, Sound, USB and all the chip sets on an INTEL motherboard! The Dell came with Vista to begin with, not only that a brand new pix 155 Canon printer was nonoperational with the latest Vista driver build release 4 days ago downloaded from Canon. Over Half the printers I have installed on Vista have not been functional.

Notice the web-server product is priced lowest, obviously because no one uses microcrap web servers anymore because the security is so substandard. According to Netwitch less then 6% of the worlds web servers have Os’s by Microgarbage. I’m grateful Linux has really stepped up to ease of use and more companies are adopting them in there operations at the server level, they dominate the market place now because they are very point and click friendly for MS admins. You don’t need to touch the shell to configure an open source web server, email server, Domain controller or file server, it can all be done from the GUI simple and easy. Plus for you noobies did I mention Linux is Free? M$’s days are numbered, even my tech peers who are very pro M$ can see it’s now approaching on the horizon. You would think Bill Gates and that buffoon Steve Balmer would as well…… I guess when this is the CEO of the company we are speaking of it’s relatively clear what the problem is. What an id10T!

Heh that was a fun rant 0_o

Macbook Pro with Solid Stae Flash memory Hard Drive

Ryan Block over at Engadget did a review of the soon to come solid sate hard drives, this particular one from Samsung. He decided to install the new Flash Memory Hard Drive in his Macbook Pro, here is a you tube movie of it’s zippy boot time.
